Arlington · Tarrant County · Mid-Cities

Arlington sits between two cities with dispensary counters and has none of its own.

Four hundred thousand people, a major university, an assembly plant, two stadiums, and not one pickup point inside the city limits. Every counter in the Metroplex is twenty minutes east or west of you. The good news is that the thing Arlington does have is one of the densest delivery corridors in Texas.

The geography problem, and why it barely matters

Arlington's position between Dallas and Fort Worth has shaped everything about the city, and it shapes this too. Licensed operators built where they could anchor a region, which in the Metroplex meant Fort Worth on one side and Plano and Frisco on the other. Arlington, being in the middle of everything and the center of nothing administratively, got skipped.

In a state with retail dispensaries that would be a real disadvantage. In Texas it is mostly an inconvenience, because nobody browses a counter here anyway. Every pickup point in the program is an order-ahead handoff: you buy online first and collect during a window. Once that is true, the difference between a counter twenty minutes away and a courier coming to your door narrows to almost nothing, and for most Arlington patients the courier wins outright.

Who is qualifying here

The profile follows the work. Arlington is a manufacturing and logistics city with a large service economy attached to the entertainment district, and the injuries that come with twenty years of that are exactly what HB 46 opened the door to: backs, shoulders, knees, and the chronic pain that outlasted the physical therapy. Add a substantial student population at UTA and a growing retirement population in the south of the city, and the qualifying conditions here spread wider than in a city with one dominant employer.

Pain lasting more than ninety days is the widest door and the one most people come through. The evaluation itself is a fifteen-minute video call with a physician registered in the state program, costs $45 to $199, and produces a CURT entry rather than a card.

The plant-and-warehouse problem, said plainly

This deserves its own heading in a city like this one. Texas offers TCUP patients no workplace protection at all, and manufacturing and logistics employers are among the most likely in the state to run a testing program. A valid prescription is not a defense to a positive result, and disclosure to HR creates a record without creating a right.

The exposure that gets less attention is workers' compensation. Texas Labor Code section 401.013(c) presumes an employee who tests positive after a workplace injury was intoxicated at the time, and an intoxicated employee is not entitled to benefits. The presumption is rebuttable and the science is on your side, but you would be arguing it after an injury, without income, against an insurer with lawyers. If you work on a floor or in a yard, price that in before you enroll. The full picture is here.

Nearest pickup: the Metroplex counters

None of these is in Arlington. The Fort Worth pair is the practical answer for anyone west of Highway 360, and Hurst is comparable if you are north. Addresses verified 2026-10-12. All are order-ahead; partner sites are clinics hosting a handoff on medical office hours and hold no inventory.

The Horne Street site in Fort Worth is Texas Original's own counter and the closest thing Arlington has to a local option. Everything in Plano, Frisco, and Colleyville is a cross-Metroplex trip that only makes sense if you are already going. Full statewide location table →

Conditions that bring Arlington patients in

Nothing here is exotic. It is the profile of a working city: pain that has been managed with over-the-counter medication for years, injuries that were never treated as injuries at the time, and a veteran population large enough to matter in any Tarrant County conversation.

Arlington questions, answered

Is there a dispensary in Arlington?

No, and there is no announced plan for one. Arlington is the largest city in Texas without a pickup point of its own, which is a strange thing to be true of a city of roughly four hundred thousand people sitting between two cities that both have counters. Every collection point in the Metroplex is in Tarrant or Collin County on one side of you or the other.

So do I drive to Fort Worth or to Plano?

Fort Worth, almost always. The Horne Street counter is Texas Original’s own site and the Eighth Avenue location is a goodblend partner clinic, both roughly twenty minutes west on I-30. Hurst is a similar distance north. Plano is on the far side of the Metroplex and makes sense only if you already work up there. Most Arlington patients skip the question entirely and take delivery.

Does delivery reach Arlington reliably?

Yes, and this is one of the better-served delivery corridors in the state. DFW carries frequent route days for both statewide operators, so Arlington, Grand Prairie, Mansfield, and Kennedale addresses typically see a window within a few business days rather than the longer cycles rural Texas lives with. Being between two metros costs you a counter and costs you nothing on delivery.

I work at the assembly plant. Will this cost me my job?

Possibly, and you need the written policy before you do anything else. Texas gives TCUP patients no employment protection whatsoever, large manufacturing employers commonly test on hire, after any incident, and at random, and a positive result is lawful grounds for termination with a valid prescription in hand. There is a second exposure specific to plant work: under Texas Labor Code section 401.013(c), a positive test after a workplace injury creates a rebuttable presumption that you were intoxicated, which can defeat a workers’ compensation claim. On a factory floor that is the risk that actually matters.

I am a UTA student. Does campus housing change anything?

Yes. Universities that accept federal funding operate under the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act, and essentially every Texas campus prohibits cannabis in university housing regardless of any state prescription. That is a housing-contract and student-conduct matter rather than a criminal one, but the consequence is real and it is the university’s to enforce. If you live on campus, the prescription does not make your dorm room legal ground.

Which county am I actually in, and does it matter?

Arlington is Tarrant County, and no, it does not matter. The Compassionate Use Program is administered by the state through a single registry, so Tarrant, Dallas, Johnson, and Ellis County residents follow an identical process with identical rules. County lines change how possession outside the program gets charged. They change nothing inside it.

Can someone else pick up or receive my order?

Only if your prescribing physician has entered them as a caregiver on your CURT record. Once that is done the dispensary can verify them and release your order, at a counter or at the door. It cannot be arranged at the handoff and it cannot be arranged by the dispensary; it happens during the video visit, and adding it later means another appointment. For a household where one person works days and the other can meet a courier, ask for it the first time.

Is it cheaper to use the Fort Worth counter than to pay for delivery?

Usually not, once you count the drive. Texas Original charges nothing for delivery but will not deliver an order under $200 at all; goodblend charges $25 below $200 and nothing above it. So the arithmetic is really about order size rather than distance: consolidate into fewer, larger orders and delivery is free from both, which makes the twenty minutes each way to Horne Street hard to justify unless you want it today.

Don't let your prescription lapse

Texas issues no card, so nothing expires in your wallet and no notice arrives in the mail. Access ends when your refills run out or your physician's follow-up date arrives, and most patients find out from a dispensary order that won't go through. Leave your email and we'll remind you before that happens, plus send the current renewal prices.
