Plano is the only city in Texas where you can actually choose your dispensary.
Almost every Texas patient has exactly one realistic way to get their medicine. Plano has
two, from two different licensed operators, both inside the city limits. That sounds like a
minor convenience and is worth real money, because the two run completely different
discount policies and the gap between them is larger than any menu price difference.
What having two operators actually buys you
Texas ran for nearly a decade on three licensed dispensing organizations, and outside a
handful of metros most patients were served by whichever one happened to build near them.
Plano is the exception. Texas Original operates a same-day satellite on West 15th Street and
goodblend runs a storefront on the 121 corridor, which means a Plano patient can compare
two live menus and collect from either without ever arranging a delivery.
The reason that matters is not variety, it is pricing policy. These two operators handle
discounts in almost opposite ways. goodblend stacks your best two eligible discounts on the
same order and runs a recurring financial hardship program for patients on SNAP, SSDI, SSI,
or WIC. Texas Original permits exactly one discount per order, counts a rewards redemption
as that one, and lists no income-based program, but applies its veteran discount
automatically and runs a points program worth banking. For a patient holding more than one
qualifying status, that difference outweighs anything on the menu.
The full price and discount comparison is here.
Getting into the program from Collin County
The part that trips people up is that your own doctor almost certainly cannot do this. The
major North Texas health systems keep faculty and employed physicians out of the
Compassionate Use Registry, for the structural reason that cannabis remains federally
scheduled and those institutions run on federal dollars. It is not a judgment about you or
about the evidence.
So the route is a telehealth service whose physicians are already registered. Fifteen
minutes on video, $45 to $199, and the prescription goes into CURT rather than producing a
card. Chronic pain lasting more than ninety days now qualifies, which in a county full of
people who have managed a bad back through two decades of desk work is the door most
patients come through.
One thing to ask for on the call
If you want vape cartridges, the prescription has to list pulmonary inhalation as a route of
administration, and if your physician does not include it the dispensary cannot sell you one
no matter what the menu shows. This is the cheapest product category per milligram by a wide
margin, so the omission is expensive. Ask during the visit, not afterward.
Where you actually pick up in Plano
Two operators, two counters, plus a partner site up in Frisco if you are further north.
Addresses verified 2026-10-12. Both hold stock on the premises — goodblend as a storefront,
Texas Original as an HB 46 satellite — so both will sell to a registered patient during posted
hours. Ordering online first is still how you know a specific product is in the case.
Plano's profile is white-collar and long-managed: conditions people have been treating inside
a specialist relationship for years rather than injuries that arrived suddenly. That history
helps at the evaluation, because a documented timeline is exactly what the physician is
looking for.
Is Plano really the best-served city in the Texas program?
By the only measure that matters, yes. Plano is the one city in Texas with counters from two different licensed operators inside the city limits: Texas Original on West 15th Street and a goodblend storefront on the 121 corridor. Austin has more total sites, but they belong overwhelmingly to one operator. Nowhere else can you switch dispensaries without switching to delivery.
What is the difference between the two, practically?
The goodblend site is a storefront with its own staff and set retail hours. The Texas Original site on West 15th is one of four HB 46 satellites the operator runs statewide, meaning DPS approved it to store medicine overnight, so it sells same-day and will serve a patient who simply walks in during posted hours. Neither is a place you browse: both run on orders placed online first. The real differences are the menus and the discount policies, and those are worth more money than the drive between them.
Which one is actually cheaper?
It depends entirely on who you are, which is why having both here matters. goodblend applies your best two eligible discounts to the same order and runs a recurring 20% financial hardship discount for patients on SNAP, SSDI, SSI, or WIC. Texas Original allows exactly one discount per order and lists no income-based program, but runs TXOG Rewards points and applies its veteran discount automatically. A veteran on SSDI does substantially better at goodblend. A patient with no qualifying status may not.
Do I still need delivery if I live here?
Probably not, and Plano is close to the only place in Texas where that sentence is true. Both operators deliver across Collin County, but with two counters within a normal errand you are unlikely to need it. The exception is order size: Texas Original will not deliver below $200 at all, and if you are consolidating into large quarterly orders anyway, free delivery to your door competes well with the drive.
Can my Plano doctor prescribe this?
Only if they are registered with the Compassionate Use Program, and most North Texas physicians are not. The large systems here are cautious for the same structural reason hospital systems everywhere are: cannabis remains federally scheduled and they run on federal research and Medicare dollars. That is why nearly everyone uses a telehealth service whose physicians are already in the registry. The visit is legal statewide and usually faster than getting a referral inside a health system.
I work for one of the corporate headquarters here. What is the risk?
Get the written policy first, because Collin County is dense with large employers and their policies vary more than you would expect. Texas gives TCUP patients no employment protection at all: an employer may test, may terminate over a positive result, and may withdraw an offer, with your prescription in hand. Some large Texas employers have quietly dropped THC from their panels and never announced it. Others test at hire and after any incident. The handbook answers this and a supervisor usually does not.
Is Frisco or McKinney easier than Plano?
Frisco has a Texas Original partner site on Warren Parkway, which is a clinic hosting a handoff on medical office hours rather than a counter with inventory. If you are in Frisco, Allen, or McKinney it may be the closer stop, but the Plano sites have broader hours and hold product. For most of northern Collin County the Plano pair is still the practical answer.
Can someone else collect my order?
Yes, if you set it up in advance. Your prescribing physician can enter a caregiver on your CURT record, and from then on the dispensary will verify that person and release your order to them. It has to happen during the evaluation; the dispensary cannot add it and arranging it later means another appointment. Bring photo ID, theirs and eventually yours, because the operators check it at every handoff.

Don't let your prescription lapse
Texas issues no card, so nothing expires in your wallet and no notice arrives in the mail.
Access ends when your refills run out or your physician's follow-up date arrives, and most
patients find out from a dispensary order that won't go through. Leave your email and we'll
remind you before that happens, plus send the current renewal prices.
